Er... Nobody will be locked into the town . citizens will come and go as they want, so the way I see it - you spend a couple of months in the town, you leave for a while, go visit your friends/family and then come back...

Also, you will be able to see people in the "open days" (maybe a weekly market or something" which will be outside the main town.

I have to write up a detailed description of daily life and everything...

Well, lets get it cracking Pavel! I just like to know what im getting into before i begin investing my time. Id be upset to get a few months or years into the project only to find an answer that changed my whole perspective and reconsider!

On a side note, i thought this set up was a permanant thing? I wasnt aware it could be treated like a summer home? Something like that would play havoc on production and storage...

The town and everything in it will be permanent - places, businesses etc. However, not everyone of the inhabitants will be there all the time, that's what I meant... So, the butcher may spend three months working in the town, then go back to "modern civilisation" and be a car mechanic or whatever until he comes back to the town. In the meantime, there will be another butcher in his place.

Ideally, these will all be independent businesses so it will be in everyone's interest to keep things going - they will be doing it for themselves, not for an abstract idea or "for the town". Initially, we'll have to organise and micro-manage ourselves, I guess.

The exception will be town magistrates (consul = modern "mayor") - these will obviously have to stay in town while their term lasts (one year, in the traditional Roman style) or at least while they "have the power". They had a very sensible arrangement in Rome - there were always two consuls, and they would alternate "having all the power" for a month at a time. In our case, this would allow the second consul to go back to Brisbane, Sydney or whatever and take care of his business there and then come back to rule the town for another month.

Alright, now i understand. So will there be contracts offered for vacant positions? Will there be defined periods of stays?

Initially - yes to both. People will be hired from outside, for fixed terms (and the company will be burning huge piles of cash...). Then, hopefully, independent businesses will start to appear gradually and make these outside contracts unnecessary.

Additionally, we have to admit that the town will never be fully self-sufficient. In Antiquity, many towns specialised into producing some product and got everything else they need from trade. The collapse of that system, together with the collapse of the Roman empire, was one of the reasons for the Dark Ages. Our aim should be to re-create the period before the Dark ages

understandably, i have no desire to be a female in a dark ages village!

Righty oh then! I had forgotten something, SALT, will always need to be imported And im sure that there will be something the town can produce for export.
